Fishing in Devon

Highbullen Hotel is ideally situated on a spur of land between two of the best fishing rivers in Devon, the River Mole and the River Taw, with beautiful scenic views of both valleys from the hotel grounds. Making fishing one of the most popular things to do during your stay.

The River Mole, the main tributary to The Taw, rises on Exmoor to the north east and joins The Taw just 2 miles from Highbullen.  The Taw rises on Dartmoor some 40 miles to the south, so each river can sometimes offer quite different fishing conditions.

Over previous seasons we have seen Salmon caught locally as early as March and Sea Trout caught in April, with Salmon in the summer regularly up to 15lbs and Sea Trout over 4lbs.  The largest Salmon we have seen recently was caught by a local vicar, weighing in at over 24lbs and the largest Sea Trout came in at over 12lbs.

Our own beat on the River Mole, within 2 miles of the hotel, is approximately three quarters of a mile of single bank fishing, with seven named pools, each quite different but all have yielded Salmon.  We are very careful not to overfish the beat, with it limited to 2 rods per day.  The cost is £35 per rod per day.
